Fathers Should Know How To Deal With A Crying Baby. Here's How!

Crying is a way for babies to convey everything they feel. Babies will cry when they feel hungry, lonely, want to pee, defecate, sleepy, even when they are bored.

So, don't be surprised, the average total time a baby can spend crying in one day can be around two hours!

Various Ways to Overcome a Crying Baby

Hearing a baby crying all the time may be frustrating or perhaps worrying. Therefore, as a family leader, being able to calm your little one when he cries is a skill that you must also have. Remember that it is not only mothers who are responsible for taking care of and nurturing the little one, the father must also be able to take care of the little one.

The following are some ways that can be done to deal with crying babies:

1. Find out the cause

Your little one has not been able to talk directly about things he feels or wants, such as when he is hungry, hot, in pain, his diaper is wet, his clothes are uncomfortable, or he just needs attention. All of that is expressed through crying.

So, first find out why the baby is crying before you try to calm the crying. It's not easy to guess the cause, but everyone can learn it, including you.

For example, you could wash your hands and then put your finger around their mouth. If he seems to be licking or sucking your finger, it could be a sign that your little one is hungry.

But if hunger is not the cause, you need to find out again. This time, try checking the diaper. If your baby's diaper is too wet or filled with feces, clean it immediately and then replace the diaper with a new, clean diaper. That way, maybe he will be calmer.

2. Make a sound that can make the baby feel comfortable

Did you know that babies feel comfortable when they hear certain sounds? Yes, this can make him calm because while still in the womb, the little one also often hears sounds, such as the sound of the mother's heartbeat and the sound of her mother's bowel movements.

Well, to create a sound that makes him feel comfortable, you can listen to the sound of a fan, the sound of water, the sound of a toy, or a soft and slow song.

The voices might calm him down. Well, when some of the sounds above seem to calm him down, you can record the sound and play it back when he cries.

3. Swing her body

Babies can feel more comfortable and calm when held. You can hold your baby by placing him on your shoulder and wrapping his arms around your neck.

After that, you can start moving your body slowly. At the same time, you can also sing a nursery rhyme with a low pitch.

You can also carry him in a sling. Then, start moving your body as above. By doing this, your little one can feel calm and even fall asleep because they can hear the rhythm of your heartbeat while feeling the warmth of your body.

4. Baby swaddle

Just like when you rock your little one, swaddling the baby will make him feel as comfortable as when he was in the womb. Make sure the blanket used is made of a soft and clean material.

5. Try to cheer her up

When you see your little one crying, you can try to cheer him up by pretending to be a clown. Make unique sounds, make funny faces, or dance to keep your little one entertained. If that works, do it until he begins to calm down and fall asleep.

6. Divert his attention

Make your little one forget about his bad mood and make him cry. For that, you can give him his favorite toy.

7. Give a caress

When your little one is fussy, try stroking or giving a gentle massage to some parts of his body, such as the cheeks, stomach, back, or legs. This touch can make your little one feel calmer and more comfortable. However, if your little one has not reached one month of age, avoid using oil or lotion to massage them.

8. Take advantage of pacifiers

Sucking on a pacifier can help soothe your baby who is constantly crying. However, do not give pacifiers if your little one is not yet 4 weeks old and limit the use of pacifiers when they are 6 months old and over.

This is to reduce the risk of your little one getting an ear infection or impaired tooth growth.

9. Leave him alone for a while

Crying that comes out of your baby is sometimes not a sign that he is experiencing discomfort. It could be a sign that he just wants to be heard or noticed by you. Well, all you need to do is just let him cry for a while. It won't hurt him, will it?

If you are confused about which method is suitable for use or even suspect that your child's crying is caused by something abnormal, then immediately see a pediatrician. Since a baby can't express what he's feeling, his crying may be a sign that he's suffering from an illness, such as an infection or colic.
